That was SO GOOD! Oh man I loved that, there was so much feeling and emotion and atmosphere in that tiny little game. I want to know more, I want to know where he really came from, where they're going, if they lasted! Oh man. I loved that.

Nice work! Though, we're still craving the back-story of the apocalypse's last radio DJ. :P

We only played one route: the female's positive(?) ending. It was a casual, sweet story; so we recommended it to our young audience. Hope y'all keep collaborating to make new story-driven games like this one.

This game is wonderful! It has a great emotional narrative that perfectly matches the setting the game takes place in. The soundtrack is fitting with an ambient type of sound. The instruments consists of an acoustic guitar and piano. There are two story lines in the game which both come from the view of the guy and the girl. I really enjoyed playing this game and highly recommend you play it for yourself.

I made a video of me playing the game so here's the link to it:

This visual novel is super cool i have made a video on my channel here:

Excuse me, I wanted to play the game since it has very good reviews, and it looks amazing. I tried downloading it with the downloads given that included apple (since I have an OS X.) but it said that this game was only for windows? Can someone help me?

the game says its for OS X but i'm pretty sure the download is a .exe only and .exe is exclusive to windows users so unfortunatly the game is not yet avaliable they may be working on it though

I haven't tried booting it up on my MacBook, but once you've unzipped it to your local drive, you should be able to play the game by clicking the Shadows.app bundle instead of the Shadows.exe Windows executable.

I'll try that, thanks.

First game I've ever paid for on itch.io and for good reason, too.

I really loved it. Short, but packed with emotion and feeling. It felt very human to me, like how I would feel on the run from zombies. The dialogue was good, the music and sound effects were spot on. Well done! The only downside was that the endings left me wanting more!

Video: Shelby's Route

Really well done! I'm impressed by what was accomplished in just four days! The art is very nice and polished, the use of colors looked very pretty, the music works well and timed nicely, and the characters dialogue was well written. I liked doing the voices for them and learning about them. I look forward to your future games!

(Is there any chance for a follow up story featuring them?)

Short but touching story. Good writing. Pretty nice game.

Is there a spoiler free guide for this game? I'm doing a let's play on this game but keep getting the same ending for Shelby's route.

Hey. I expected this game to a "Meh..." But I played it and it was actually REALLY fun Any know there was no action, the lighting, music, and art style was awesome! Would really love more added!

Hey had a lot of fun playing this, am really going to try to go for all endings but I wanted to share that I played this on my channel. Naturally I linked people to this game in my description

Hello! I wonder how to contact developer by email? :)

A very emotional game, and it made me think a lot. I love this game. It seems so human, and not cinematic like normal "Zombie Apocalypse" games/movies.

lol, I almost cried. It was so sad at times. I loved it 100 percent of it though. My favorite part, though? Their reactions to the music. 10/10 would play again.

An absolutely beautiful game! I have to say it is a sensory overload to my eyes and ears, which is a good thing! :P I LOVED the music and the art, I can't express that more! It brought back memories of my childhood as well, weird I know.. But have a look at my let's play and you shall see why! :)

Video: https://youtu.be/U68LfmHHZh0

This is a really nice and creative little game. The art style is cool, the music is calm and weird but works for the story, and the writing is all well done. I have to say I didn't really expect the games story to go where it actually did. At first I was expecting the two to simply be traveling cross country together. But when what really happened comes about, it honestly makes the game make that much more sense. I also like how there are more than one ending to the story based on how you respond and who you play as throughout the game. All in all an awesome little visual novel with a close to home feel. I did a video on my experience with Shelby's story if anyone is interested. I definitely plan on going back and playing through Dustin's side and seeing how it differs from Shelby's.

I watched @Mithzan playthis game and I feel in love with it immediately! I really want to play this game (i only have a chrome computer) and would love to see the endings to this. This game is the best roleplay?novel game I've ever seen (besides Undertale to). This game looks Astounding! I'd love to play this game \(>ᗜ>)/

The Shadows That Run Alongside The Car is a Visual Novel about two apocalypse survivors trying to find a safe haven. I'd say it's more about the journey than the destination it's really curious. Here's my impression of the game: https://youtu.be/HlGsv-udvyE

Honestly...I went into this not expecting much and giving up right away but I got hooked instantly! Very nicely done! I can't wait to finish up all the endings.

I loved this game so much, I fell in love with the characters and the art style and just everything about it! You can watch me play it here if you want to >> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vHMq7vvWRL0&list=PLa3q6V6i4ONYEBgX6JKhA0jJKz8tnkIOD

I love this. The concept is so simple but so complex. It's two strangers in the apocalypse talking in a car, but it's so much more than that. While I do wish it was longer, I love the endings as they are very open-ended and let the reader decide what happened after the ending. It interacts with the audience by not giving them a solid finale, and I say kudos for that. To create such a powerful game in only four days? Incredible. Words can't describe what I'm feeling right now.

Job well done. Highly anticipating your next game, if you are going to make another. :~)

umm how do i download this on windows cause it dosen't let me for some weird reason

Hi, we're going to need a bit more detail than that to solve your problem, but do check your antivirus software to make sure it's not flagging the game as harmful and blocking it. I know Avast, for example, likes to do that with Ren'Py games, unfortunately...

Hi! I was just wondering how to open this on mac? It just downloads a zip file, and I may be being dumb about this, but it just looks so good and I have no idea how to play it, thank you!

After you download the .zip file, simply extract it somewhere. Inside the folder (which should be called Shadows-1.0-all) there will be various files that allow you to run the game regardless of whether you're on Mac, Windows, or Linux. If you're on Windows, double click Shadows.exe. On Mac, it's Shadows.app, etc etc.

Thank you so much! x

(1 edit)

There doesn't seem to be a Shadows.app when I download and extract the zip file, only a Shadows.exe :( Any suggestions?

The .app extension probably won't be there when you're looking at the folder on a Mac, so look for the file simply called "Shadows" that has the special game icon.

Oh I figured it out! Thanks so much it's a great game!
